Vanderbilt University "VU" or "Anchor Down" Hand Sign Sculpture in Brass

$186.00

Brand PRIZE

Through the years, Vanderbilt fans have adopted the cheer, “Who ya with? VU!”.  From this cheer spawned Vanderbilt’s “VU” hand sign.  The sign has become a highly recognizable symbol of Vanderbilt pride throughout Commodore Nation.  It can be spotted at sporting events, pep rallies, and beyond; and it is now a rally cry for Vanderbilt Commodores worldwide.

Introduced by Vanderbilt’s cheerleaders in 2003, the popular “VU” hand sign is formed with the thumb, index finger, and middle finger of one’s right hand with the palm facing out.  The index finger and middle finger form the V, and the U is formed by the index finger and the thumb.

This hand sign is also often referred to as “Anchor Down”.  The Vanderbilt Anchor was adopted in 2004 as a symbol of unity and strength, and it accompanies the football team to all home and away games.

PRIZE Sculptures are created in brass using the ancient process of lost wax casting and are polished by hand to achieve a high gloss finish.  Due to the handmade nature of the sculptures, each piece varies slightly, and no two pieces are exactly alike.

The unlacquered brass, also called unfinished, living or raw brass, will age and darken over time.  Some think that this living finish improves with age.  However, if you prefer to return the brass to its original shiny state, a polishing ket is included.

The bottom of each Sculpture is felted to protect any surface.

Due to the handmade nature of the product, some variations may occur.
